Adsum’s SS20 collection looks beyond players on the field and delves into the style of people taking care of backshops and field-houses of some of our beloved sports. Commercial interests focus on the star athlete in the center field but we find there is deep soul in the way caddies, field technicians and groundskeepers dress. Big money endorsement deals keep professional athletes dressed head to toe in the latest and greatest. It’s the well-worn, utilitarian and laid-back style that we gravitate towards seen on the professionals that work behind the scenes in some of our favorite sports.
The utility thread carries forward from the FW19 harvest collection into SS20. Field crews require the same type of elemental protection as harvest workers do in the field. We looked at the caddies catching a quick rest beneath a tree in between rounds, the field crew unrolling a rain tarp during a storm in an MLB game and groundsmen doing early morning observations on the oval conditions of the cricket pitch. There are casualness and irreverence to the people that served as SS20 creative inspiration. As our friend Mordechai says, “there is beauty in the everyday uniform”.
Drop 1 sees the introduction of a deep-pocketed split yoke hard-shell Marsu Jacket. All three of the front pockets have large darts to add to their carrying capacity. Finished with YKK aqua guard zippers at center front, the jacket also features placketed armpit zippers to allow for airflow on humid days. The Hooded UC Jacket hides a packable hood inside its collar and is emblazoned with a seasonal engravers bone logo. The 3/4 zip combed cotton terry sweatshirt with contrasting herringbone taping along with the light outerwear pieces in drop one reference collegiate sports style. Classic Adsum pieces, the Bank Pant and Bank Short have been reworked in an extremely dense cotton twill main body fabric that is tough but wearable in humid summer weather.
