Expedition Fleece + Italian Moleskin Workshirts

Adsum’s Expedition Fleece is a new style for FW19. This garment will stand the test of time and provide a tremendous amount of warmth due to the heavy brushed pile face side of the fabric. The word pile comes from pilus in Latin which means “hair”.

Our Expedition Fleece is hairy, warm and tough. Unlike the famous Patagonia Retro X fleeces that paved the way for us and all fleeces after it, we took the high pile hairy side of the fleece and flipped it inwards so that it faces the interior of the jacket. After testing, we found that having the pile facing inwards keeps the wearer of the jacket warmer due to the loft that the high pile created on the interior of the jacket.

Please don’t be fussed about the rough appearance of the outside of our jackets. We wanted it to look this way. It’s actually more difficult for us to use the backside of the fabric as the face, because when fabric quality control inspection takes place, it usually focuses the true face side of a fabric. We had to do a special inspection process on the backside of the fabric so that there would be no defects on the backside of the fabric.

Other special features on our Expedition Fleece include a slightly higher than normal collar height, Japanese spec nylon coil zippers that feature a factory produced large silicone zipper pull for easy zipping when finger dexterity is compromised. We added a thick Japanese grosgrain placket at center front to reduce the chances of zipper snags which occur frequently on fleeces.

The FW19 Garment Dyed Italian Moleskins Shirts are warm and have a beautiful hand feel. Moleskin is a versatile, tough fabric that has a soft sensitive side to it. Consider it the brother of an ultra suede which has more drape and is less sturdy. Our moleskin features a double side brush so they are soft to the touch on the exterior and interior of the shirt. We layer the workshirts and continue to treat them as a light jacket that can be thrown on undone and worn like a jacket.

The new FW19 Moleskin shirts have undergone a fit spec adjustment this season so they’ll fit slightly roomier than our FW18 moleskins. We added new asymmetrical pockets on the front of the shirts which feature hidden reinforced snaps closures. The bright, garment dyed pop colors of the shirts this season are matched with custom high shine lacquer tonal buttons.

All FW19 shirts were crafted in a new vertical Indian factory. The moleskin used for FW19 was sourced from Italy because Italians are arguably the best in the world at creating corduroys and moleskins. Our new wovens factory is ISO 9001 certified for environmental sustainability and SA 8000 for social responsibilities. As our business grows it’s a critical priority for us to have full transparency on everything we produce.
