Our Alpine Jacket gets its DNA from expedition style jackets taken on trips to the coldest places on earth. Famous pictures of alpinists summiting peaks in the Himalayas and solo explorers cross country skiing across the desolate landscapes of the North and South Poles was our touch point when creating Adsum’s Alpine Jacket.
A major differentiator between vintage or new school expedition jackets and the Adsum Alpine Jacket is the exterior main body fabric. We chose a less traditional 100% Nylon exterior fabric and treated it with a special coating to soften its sheen and give it a slight crinkle, making it easier on the eye compared to a high shine taffeta ripstop often used on big down coats.
We didn’t picture this jacket laying under an oxygen tank making its way up a peak. We aimed to make a jacket that comes out of your closet on the coldest day of the year and will crush through the elements with ease.
Features include deep flap entry exterior patch pockets which are easier to get into compared to zippered hand pockets. The pockets are deep and sturdy enough to hold anything you might possibly need to stow quickly in frigid weather. Exterior mounted pull cords for hood cinching take away the hassle of having to reach into the interior neck area of the jacket to cinch the hood and it removes cord locks from the interior neck area all together. Both the bottom hem and waistline are cinchable to shape the jacket to your body so drafts stay out when the wind kicks up. A simple zip pocket exists inside the jacket for valuables you want to keep protected from the elements. Ponte storm cuffs replace elasticated or velcro treated closures for a cleaner, easier wearing sleeve cuff.
Like our Hyperlight Down pieces, the quality of the down we sourced for the Alpine Jacket is extremely good. Fill power rating stands at 800 and the down to feather cluster ratio is 90/10. Weather proof, exceptionally warm, and finished with thoughtful details; this is made to be the only winter coat you need.
