This past week our world changed. The COVID-19 virus is showing there is no border, business or life that it can’t reach to have an impact on. Our manufacturing and wholesale partners all over the world are at a standstill with their brick and mortar locations not being allowed to operate, their warehouses can’t accept new season product and, in some cases, factories and airlines aren’t operational. The hose has been kinked and everyone is wondering what to do.
We’ve decided we need to do what we can in a safe manner, respecting how intense the situation is in our neck of the woods and elsewhere for others. To that end, last week our founder Pete went to the store to make sure everything was in order since it's been shuttered for a week. With the door shut to the crisis outside, he took photos of himself in shorts and tees from the Drop 1 SS20 collection on a sunny afternoon at our flagship, 97 North 7th Street in Brooklyn, NY.
Drop 1 features two types of shorts, one new style, the Effo Short, and the Bank Short, which has been a summer staple since our first season. The Bank Short features a new, fully functional 4.5 ykk locking zipper fly and snap button closure. We used the same braided round drawcord with branded metal tips and set them into the interior of the waistband with military style eyelet reinforcement. Another major change to the bank short is the implementation of the same dense 30s twill- used on the Asymmetrical Workshirt as the main body fabric on the short. The fabric is an upgrade from past season's typewriter cloth as it will be stronger and feels better against the skin with its ultra fine peached face.
The Effo Short is meant for warm days that require a casual short with the added utility of side seam hand pockets and a velcro closure back patch pocket. The short is fully lined for comfort and so that your briefs aren’t visible to passerbys. We chose a crinkle nylon fabric for the short, which has a dense hand but is soft to touch. Nylon is prized for its strength especially in comparison to its sibling polyester.
Drop 1 tees include carry over styles such as the Core Logo Tee and Pocket Tee. We used the same 200GSM open end American yarn cotton jersey to make our Core Tees. The only update to these styles is added shoulder width to the block of the tee shirts.
Our Graphic Tees have the same fit as our Core Tee however they use a smooth heavy 250 GSM combed cotton jersey from India. Drop 1 artwork includes the Block and Clover designs. The Block Design is an ode to the abstract art of American artist Ellsworth Kelly and the Clover Design was our Art Director, Christian Rice, creating a geometric icon of the lucky four leafed plant that we’re all trying to find.
Stay safe everyone.
