We wanted to take a deeper look at a couple fan favorites from Fall/Winter 2019. An old favorite, our Flop Neck Fleece, and a new style that is quickly becoming one, the UC Pant. Our third season running the style, the Flop Neck Fleece sits as an outlier next to most polyester fleece styles. A step away from outdoor performance and a step toward something casual that you can wear every day. Although different, the UC Pant aims to achieve the same goal; taking a sport inspired training pant, and making it a go to for daily life.
A style somewhat unique to Adsum, the Flop Neck Fleece has a neck construction usually deployed on fully fashioned knit sweaters. We applied it to a slightly more technical style. Most polyester fleece tops turn out as 3/4 or full zip front entry jackets, like ones made famous by one of the greatest outdoor clothing brands, Patagonia. We wanted this to sit right in the middle between technical and casual.
Polyester Fleece has not been around for all that long. It was only 40 years ago that Polartec from Malden, Massachusetts invented what we now know as polar fleece as a substitute for wool. Constructed from double side brush polyester fleece, the Flop Neck fleece will provide ample warmth on chilly days.
All stitching details on the piece utilize cover-stitching. Two vintage style pockets are hidden in the side seam for utility and an additional place to warm your hands. The cinchable waist allows the style to stand on its own as a light outerwear piece during transitional weather periods. Its simplicity is what most likely makes it a fan favorite amongst our customers, friends, and family.
Warm up pants remind us of amateur sports days, sitting on the side of a tennis court or soccer field on a brisk fall day. Problems arise when trying to take off the warm up pant without removing our shoes, only to have the pants turn inside out when the shoes become lodged inside the legs of the pants. Those days have long passed but we find a casual nylon warm up pant fits nicely into our FW19 collection.
The UC Pant has some nice details that can be hard to catch. Internally, the pants are lined with a breathable mesh on the upper 2/3rds of the pant. From below the knee, the pant is lined with a slightly more sturdy coated taffeta to reduce the chance of a shoe snag. Each ankle has auto-locking size 3 YKK zippers to allow for the ankle area to be opened up to 11 inches. Side and rear pockets are zippered so contents will stay secured while you are on the move.
Combo fabric behind the knee and a small embroidery above the wearers back left pocket welt are subtle contrast pops of color. It’s a style we hope will make it past a morning jog and into someones weekly rotation.
